Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) – University of Brighton

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is a world-leading programme that helps businesses succeed by connecting them to rich academic resources and providing links to the necessary expertise.  The partnership is between the business seeking expertise, a university or college and a recently qualified graduate, known as an Associate.  Programme costs are part funded up to 67 percent by Innovate UK, and our Knowledge Exchange team will provide you with a comprehensive level of support throughout the process.

With an additional £30 million being recently committed to fund new KTP projects, now is an excellent time to act on that bright idea to innovate your business.  A Knowledge Transfer Partnership can involve refining or designing products, opening new markets, improving business, marketing or manufacturing systems and cutting costs and waste.  Innovate UK particularly welcome applications in the following sectors although there are regular open calls:

  • Emerging and Enabling Technologies
  • Manufacturing and Materials
  • Health and Life Sciences
  • Infrastructure Systems

Over 250 companies have worked with the University of Brighton to innovate through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership on a wide range of strategic projects, and here are just some of the companies we have worked with from the Adur and Worthing area:

Allergy Therapeutics, Applied Kilovolts, Ferring Country Centre, GBE Electronics, Link Romania, Northbrook College, Parafix Tapes and Conversions, Paula Rosa Manhattan, Pyroban and Travel Places.

The latest statistics from Innovate UK show that, on average, the KTP business benefits are:

  • £113k one-off increase in net profit during the programme
  • projected increase of over £1 million in annual profits before tax
  • the creation of two new jobs
  • increase in skills of existing staff.
